India vs England Fourth test Day 3 Ranchi

England batting line scrambles against Indian Spinners. Jurel scores a fantastic knock.

India were three wickets away, reduced from their first innings score of England by 134 on Day one. It seemed like they could fall far enough behind that a comeback was impossible. However, Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav capitalized on the best batting conditions of the day. It was Kuldeep’s longest time spent at the crease in a Test innings; he occupied it for 131 deliveries. After Kuldeep fell, Jurel changed gears and made his career-best score of 90.

England still had a lead of 46. It was not a productive series for India’s spinners, as we are, accustomed to having stood up in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. R Ashwin was close to his best again. He took three wickets with the new ball.

Finally, there was much more experience and quality shown between these two teams. The bowlers from England offered some loose balls and ran away towards the stumps with a score of zero for no loss. India reached the stumps at 40 without losing any wickets. They just needed to level with England at 134 runs and now need to win, having ended up needing 152 runs. What an about-turn!

Ashwin picks Five wicket haul and four wickets for Kuldeep Yadav. Zak Crawley scored sixty runs.
