Match 14 Karachi Kings Vs Islamabad United PSL 09

Karachi Kings were beaten by Islamabad United in the fourteenth match of the ninth edition of PSL.

Islamabad opened this season with a win against Lahore Qalandars but lost to three teams afterward. This win means that they now have two wins out of five matches played.

Their opening pair, Colin Munro and Alex Hales deserve credit for setting up a formidable total that destroyed Karachi’s bowling attack. From only 69 balls, they contributed 108 off the first wicket.

Although Karachi tried to tighten their grip by giving away fewer runs, in each over, Agha Salman (25) and Shadab Khan (10) chased down the target slowly, reaching it through an inside edge off the penultimate delivery of over number eighteen.

Hasan Ali, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Mohammad Nawaz picked one wicket each for Karachi.Earlier, Kieron Pollard and Mohammad Irfan Khan launched a counter-attack that helped them recover after Lahore Qalandars asked them to bat first in Match 8 played at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium on Saturday Evening, resulting in an undefeated partnership for the sixth wicket between Pollard and Irfan and hence posting 165/5 on board in their allotted overs.

At the start of their innings, the home team received a huge blow when Imad Wasim bowled out Tim Seifert (8) in the third over and left them with only 17 runs on the board.

After that downfall, Leus du Plooy joined skipper Shan Masood and momentarily augmented the total. They together scored 40 runs quickly in just five overs before du Plooy, was caught by Salman Ali Agha off his delivery in the eighth over. Du Plooy was also responsible for slogging four fours in his 15-ball knock for 24.

However, captain Masood’s effort to consolidate was ended by Hunain Shah, who dismissed him after making a contribution of 27 made up of balls from 30 with three boundaries.

Afterward, two wickets fell one after another as Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Nawaz got out against six runs each. This decline took the hosts to 89/5 after only 13.1 overs.

Half of them were sent back to the pavilion. Kieron Pollard had stood shoulder to shoulder with Mohammad Irfan Khan, building a determined partnership. Their unbeaten alliance added some crucial runs pushing. Karachi Kings beyond the score of 160. Karachi Kings will now be faced by Quetta Gladiators on Friday.
